Get curious with anger...
Your fortnightly hack to cheat the EQ code: Anger Series.
Be honest, at any point in the last month, have you felt angry? Of course you have—because you’re human.
Anger gets a bad rep. It’s probably the most suppressed emotion too, but we rarely stand back and consider that it could be a signal.
A signal telling us something’s off that we need to pay attention to before we erupt.
Psychologists call anger a secondary emotion. Behind it? Usually one of these: fear, loss or unmet needs
Most of the time when we feel anger we just stop there, yet it's an invitation to get to know ourselves better.
Next time you feel anger bubbling up, take 10 minutes to yourself and ask:
What’s been taken from me?
What do I fear?
What expectation went unmet? Why did I have that expectation?
What was the expectation I didn’t communicate? Why didn’t I communicate it?
What can this teach me about what I truly value?
Try noting down or recording your thoughts. Use them as a launching pad for better dialogue and communication.
Drop me an email and share what came from reflecting on these questions, I'd love to hear it:
